Bairro Do Avillez

Bairro Do Avillez is a true Lisbon gem and you need to add this Gastro spectacular to your must do list.

Bairro Do Avillez was established by renowned Portuguese chef Jose Avillez and although it looks and feels like it has been serving amazing food for decades, it's actually only open since summer 2016.

When you enter Bairro Do Avillez you’ll be blown away by the magnificent Mercearia or Deli. The busy open kitchen instantly brings this restaurant to life and you will be mesmerised by the attention to detail that has been put into this space. Watch the chefs prepare the meals as they delicately carve mouth melting chorizo, piece together your salad or flame prawns in a hot pan.

When you move through the restaurant, next you’ll find the Taberna serving traditional hearty food for the meat lovers. Juicy steaks, gourmet burgers and a blend of traditional Portuguese dishes, it will be difficult to force yourself to keep on the move towards the Pateo.

The Pateo is a bright and airy space which has a buzz of it’s own. This scene from Bairro Do Avillez is where fish and seafood are the number one priority and be in no doubt that this is one of Lisbon’s best seafood experiences. If you look up, you’ll find the mezzanine which is the space they call Beco. This space is dedicated to international cuisine and there is a definite hint of Peruvian flavours in this lofty section which lets you peek down on the Pateo activity.

The mezzanine also includes the incredible Pizzaria Lisboa, probably the best pizza you’ll ever have, topped with the freshest of ingredients. If you like Pizza, you will simply love Pizzaria Lisboa.

We have visited Bairro Do Avillez several times since our first treat. The staff and service are as good as it gets and it's obvious that Chef Avillez has paid incredible attention to detail.
