New Years Eve is one of the biggest celebrations in the Lisbon calendar and they really know how to throw a party.
Here is our hand picked selection of the Top 5 venues in Lisbon to watch the New Years Eve Fireworks, including, the main square, some of Lisbon’s famous Miradouro’s (viewpoints) and historical districts.
Praça do Comércio
Praça do Comércio is where the main New Years Eve celebrations take place in Lisbon each year.
The live music will start from 10:00pm and at midnight there is a 15 minute firework display after that. Following the fireworks there is a DJ set so that you can rock your way into 2024.
Expect large crowds and a party atmosphere with organised live music and an incredible fireworks display overhead.
The best way to get here on the night is by Metro to Cais Do Sodre and then a short stroll along the river.

Alfama
Alfama is set on a hill above Praça do Comércio so it offers epic aerial views of the firework displays taking place along the river Tagus.
The main viewing point in this district is Largo De Santa Luzia but be aware that this is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike so in order to get a good view, we recommend that you get there in plenty of time to enjoy the show.
Other options in this area would be to walk further uphill to Castelo de São Jorge where it may be less crowded.

Belem Tower
There are lots of New Year’s Eve firework displays to enjoy in or around Lisbon and another spectacular show is at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Belem Tower. This display is smaller than that of Praça do Comércio but the open area of Belem means that there is plenty of room for crowds to gather without being on top of one another.
Belem is easily accessible by train and the other attractions out here such as Jerónimos Monastery (another UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the Monument of Discoveries form an incredible backdrop for this special occasion.

New Year's Eve River Cruise in Lisbon
Probably the most spectacular way to view the Lisbon New Year Eve Fireworks display is from a river cruise.
Since Lisbon is situated on the wide expanse of the river Tagus, taking a Lisbon boat cruise on New Years Eve will offer up the best, uninterrupted views of the fireworks display and the crowds which gather to watch them in Praça do Comércio. The expanse of the city lights will also be on view and it will be a night to remember forever.
