Alcântara

A Dockland area for food, boat trips and LX Factory Market

Once a rural suburb of Lisbon, Alcântara has gone through industrial change to become the lively and interesting district of Lisbon it is today.

Alcantara sweeps down from the Lisbon hills onto the banks of the river Tagus where you find the Docas or Docks. The Docas have been transformed into a Marina which is packed full of trendy restaurants and bars. Nestled under the iconic 25th of April Bridge the Docas are a great place to grab lunch or an evening meal and you’ll find a wide range of restaurants to meet all pockets which include fantastic seafood, succulent Argentinian streaks or perhaps a cheerful Italian meal for the family.

You can also book boat trips from the Docas and I highly recommend that you take one. The boat will bring you up to Belem and you’ll have magnificent aspects from the river of the Belem Tower and Monument of Discoveries. On the way back you’ll be brought over to the far bank of the river and under the 25th April Bridge.

Alcantara is also home to the bohemian market called LX Factory which again is a brilliant place to visit by day or by night. The river Tagus never disappoints for Lisbon sunsets and this a great time of the day to finish off or start you Alcantara experience.

Alcantara is about a 10 minute Uber drive from Cais do Sodre or you can also take a short train or bus journey to get there.
