Chapitô a Mesa

Let the fun begin at this quirky restaurant, circus school and stunning rooftop venue.

Chapitô a Mesa is located very close to Castelo São Jorge in the medieval district of Lisbon.

This hilltop restaurant offers wonderful panoramic views over Lisbon including the 25th of April Bridge in the distance, lit up in all it's glory at night.

The restaurant itself is also host to a circus school and although we didn't witness any acrobatics on the particular evening we dined there, there was a magician moving from table to table entertaining the patrons.

Chapitô a Mesa is split over three floors, each offering a different experience. The Bar area, or Bartô, is covered by a small circus tent and often has artists perform circus acts in the evenings. The restaurant area is split over the next two floors and we highly recommended that you book a window table on the top floor for the best seats in the house and to avail of the great views over Lisbon. The access to the top floor is up a short spiral staircase, so if this bothers you, then the first floor restaurant is perfect too.

There is a strong local cultural bond with Chapitô a Mesa and both locals and tourists gather here in the evenings to either hang out or try their delicious traditional Portuguese food. There is also a small shop as you enter which is run by the artists, so have a look, it’s for a worthy cause.
