Lisbon Metro

It's easy to use and great to get to and from Lisbon Airport

The Lisbon Metro is a great way to get to and from the airport and connecting you to downtown.

First opened in 1959 the Metro or Metropolitano de Lisboa as it is locally known, has 4 main lines and 55 stations. The lines are coloured, Blue, Yellow, Green and Red and it’s the Red line that connects to the airport. There are only 6 overlapping connections so it is easy to use but it has limited connectivity to many of the Lisbon sites and attractions where tourists might want to visit.

However if travelling light, the Lisbon Metro can be the perfect way to get from the Airport to your accommodation as many of the main hotels are located in downtown city centre. It only costs €2.15 for a one way ticket but keep your ticket as it is reusable and your next journey will be €0.50 cheaper when used again. The Journey from the Airport to downtown takes at most, 40 minutes, it’s a “green” transport option and a comparable journey time to a taxi (approximately 30-40 minutes).

See Lisbon Metro map below - take a screenshot so it’s always there when you need it.
